Lab session: Present continuous

Welcome to the lab session 1

Topic:
Present continuous

Authors: Marcela Osegueda and Jonathan Garcia
Time : 60 minutes
Level: A2

In this lab session, you will find the uses and structure of the present continuous, also called present progressive. Likewise, you will find a video with examples and 5 exercises that will help you practice with the present continuous. The exercises are divided into three categories: drag and drop, multiple choice, and fill in the blanks.

How is it formed?

Take a look at the present continuous structure:

*NOTE: Most of the time, we only add -ing to the base verb, but there are some exceptions.

➤If the verb ends in an "e", leave out the "e".

Ex:
Make: I am taking the last bus home.
Take: My sister is making tea.

➤If there is a one-syllable verb, ending in a consonant, preceded by a vowel, double the last consonant.

Ex:
Sit: I am sitting on the bench.
Get: It is getting late.

➤If the base verb ends in "ie", change the "ie" to a "y".

Ex:
Lie: He is lying.
Die: The poor dog is dying.
